This pisses me off so much. 24yr old Sheffield Hallam University student Richard O’Dwyer made a website called TVShack.net. He didn’t even upload content, it was just a google-like site to find sites that share video. He lives in the UK. He doesn’t even get rich off of the site, he is just a college student whose main priority is attending his university and making it to lectures.
The UK has no current charges filed against him, but he is fighting for his freedom because the US wants to extradite him and put him in court and most likely jail him here. Don’t we have enough inmates here?
The US has more inmates than anywhere else. We spend more money on paying for inmates (prisons, food, etc.) than we do on education/our future. And we wan’t to now import others from foreign countries? There are people in this country that rape and murder and get off on technicalities, or get off because of money and celebrity status, but this guy that ran a website in the UK might be jailed here.
I am not hating on just the US Govt, I know a lot of it has to do with the power that money brings by RIAA, MPAA, etc. Money and anti piracy is more important than criminals that are actually physically hurting people in this country. People do more time for piracy than murder in some cases in this country. It just disgusts me.
This appears on the site, even after he took it down. A UK webmaster with a site hosted on UK serves, seized by the US.
